Kalurghat Bridge is the main road and rail link in Chattogram's Boalkhali.  But millions of people travel through this dilapidated bridge every day.  As the bridge is a one-way traffic system, the residents of the area fell into long traffic jams.  Which often has to wait for 4-6 hours at this bridge.  The ferry service is going to be launched in February.  Connecting roads are being constructed on both sides of the bridge.  That is why 3 ferries have been brought.

According to the RHD department, initially 2 ferries will run.  Trucks, lorries, buses will travel through the ferry, small vehicles will use the bridge.  To reduce the suffering of passengers and avoid the movement of heavy vehicles through the dangerous bridge, the RHD authorities have taken the initiative to start the ferry service.  The ferry will start only after the construction of the connecting road is completed.  3 ferries arrived.  2 will run regularly.  There will be 1 reserve.

Chattogram RHD Executive Engineer Pintu Chakma said, if the service is started on the bridge at present, the traffic congestion on both sides of the Kalurghat bridge will reduce.  This will reduce the pressure on the bridge.

It is known that the railway-road bridge over the Karnaphuli River at Kalurghat was constructed in 1930.  This bridge connects North and South in Chattogram. It was declared vulnerable in 2001.  All types of light and heavy vehicles from trains are plying through the dangerous bridge.  From trains to all types of light and heavy vehicles are moving over the bridge.  Vehicles weighing more than 10 tonnes are prohibited on the bridge.  But the train runs at a speed of only 10 miles per hour.

The structure of the bridge was wobbly at once.  There are holes in the base of the tree.  Many small and big potholes have been formed, which are dangerous for the movement of many vehicles and trains.
