With the coming of February we cannot help but remember those tumultuous days when the newly divided subcontinent of India found its ways through the quagmire of independence. But, it was in these times when the people of Bengal found their lives facing another crisis—a crisis of language. To be or not to be—Urdu, that was the question which pushed the ruling government of that time to be strict about advocating Urdu as the only state language.

It was at these times when the golden flowers of Bengal began to bloom. The golden sons of Bengal did not accept this subjugation imposed by the then ruling government. These were the ominous days which was going to change the history of Bangladesh forever in the global court.

This eventually led to the culmination of the ultimate sacrifice ever made for a language. A sacrifice which now has gained the international recognition and respect and is celebrated in multiple countries worldwide. This movement, known as Language Movement, is a symbol of undaunted unity and perseverance of the Bangalee people which ultimately resulted into the birth of a new nation many years later.
