Allegations have arisen regarding inconsistencies in the collection, testing and delivery of samples from suspected coronavirus patients. This has led to much speculation about the accuracy of the results of COVID-19.

Without accurate testing, it will be impossible to get a proper picture of the current situation in the country regarding the disease. False positives are seemingly very common. Lab authorities have been accused of providing confusing results as well.

There have also been allegations that health technologists who are supposed to collect specimens for lab testing, on many occasions avoid collecting specimens themselves and instead ask suspected patients to do the job for them. If such allegations are true, they must be held accountable for jeopardising public health in such a reckless manner.

Stricter guidelines must be enforced

to ensure that health technicians

carry out their duties properly.

The testing authorities are also not properly monitoring the tests, leading to inaccurate test results. Already there is a shortage of testing facilities, kits and technicians. In many districts, there are no technicians to carry out the job, forcing volunteers to do the job. Since they are not properly trained on the matter, the test results are likely to be inaccurate due to ineffective sample collection.

Moreover, many of those who tested positive for coronavirus are being given their test results 8 to 10 days later. This means that during that time there is a high chance of the suspected patient infecting many others.

Proper monitoring is needed in order to ensure effective and accurate sample collection. Authorities must hold accountable those who are disregarding the rules and endangering the lives of the public.

Stricter guidelines must be enforced to ensure that health technicians carry out their duties properly. Health authorities must also ensure that the testing procedure is carried out accurately. The report delivery system must be improved so that suspected patients receive their reports promptly.
