A court in Kishoreganj has sentenced a father, his brother, and a nephew to death for killing his daughter in a premeditated attempt to falsely implicate rivals in a murder case.
Each convict has also been fined Tk 50,000.
The girl's mother, Mosammat Najmunnahar, was acquitted of the charges. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob of the Kishoreganj District and Sessions Judge Court. Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Jalal Uddin confirmed the details of the verdict.
The convicts—who were absent during the verdict—are: Md Anwarul Islam alias Angur Mia, 73, his younger brother Khurshid Mia, 52, and their nephew Sadek Mia, 36, son of their brother Menu Mia. All are residents of Bhatiya Zahirkona village in Karimganj upazila.
According to the case statement, on August 10, 2016, Angur Mia, along with his brother and nephew, stabbed his daughter Meera Akter in the chest with a knife, leading to her death. They later filed a murder case with Karimganj Police Station, attempting to frame a rival party for the killing.
However, Sub-Inspector (SI) Alok Kumar Dutta of Karimganj Police Station, who led the investigation, found evidence proving that the killing was orchestrated by the father and his associates to implicate their rivals.
On September 3, 2017, SI Dutta filed a new murder case against the four accused based on his investigation. After a lengthy trial, the court has now delivered its verdict.
