Agriculture has always been the backbone of our country. And over the years it has flourished into a highly prospective sector. Massive leaps and gains have been made over the last decade in this sector.
We are now truly self-reliant and even able to export food products to other countries of the world. Yet, it is not enough to provide a substantial gradient in the economy.
A report published in this daily showed that fruits and flowers are currently the most advanced crops in the country. At the same time, cultivation of vegetables, food grains other than paddy, oilseeds, spices and pulses has also expanded at a high rate.
This was not the case a decade ago when we considered ourselves to be self-sustaining just by producing grain and rice. Now the situation has changed as we have gained much diversification in this field.

The report also showed that because of a series of initiatives taken by the government and the private sector with an emphasis on commercialization and diversification of agriculture, farmers have now become interested in the production of other crops and agricultural products.
Moreover, focus has been shifted to providing adequate training with a number of apps meant for the farmers and also agriculture training institutes to help educate farmers.
We have indeed achieved remarkable advancements in the agriculture sector. Moreover, during the coronavirus pandemic the premier also expressed satisfaction over the fact that there are adequate food stocks.
And the truth is that owing to sufficient stocks the pandemic has failed to make us suffer to a terrible extent.
Above all, it is imperative that diversification be encouraged in the agriculture sector so that more and more youths get interested in agriculture and contribute to our economy.
