Due to favourable weather for potato cultivation this year, potato farmers are expecting sufficient potato production and fair price. In the meantime, farmers have started passing busy time harvesting potatoes.
They are now tending the potato fields with the hope of a good profit. At the same time, the officials of the agriculture office are seen inspecting the potato fields despite the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure harvesting the crops properly.
A farmer from Sreenagar ofMunshiganjdistrict said, “We are now inclined to cultivate early varieties of potatoes with the hope of making more profit. We are happy to get good price of early variety potatoes in the market”.
It has been learnt that the farmers in different districts are now busy picking early varieties of potatoes from their fields. They said that they are getting 25 to 30 maundsof potatoes per bigha by cultivating early varieties of the vegetable.
While visiting different kitchen markets in the capital it was learnt that, initially, potato was selling at Tk 100 per kilogram (kg), but as now the new variety potatoes are coming in the market now the essential is being sold at Tk 35 to 40 per kg in the retail market.
Farmers said that the weather has been favourable for potato cultivation.This time the profit is getting better due to higher yields, they added.
