The farmers of Chatmohar upazila of Pabna are benefitting by irrigating the land through ribbon pipe system. The overall production of the country is increasing through irrigating the lands in this way. As a result, farmers are also benefiting economically.

In areas where there is no deep or shallow tube well due to lack of electricity in the vicinity of vegetables, fruits, crop lands or no installation of pipes in the ground, irrigation equipment is provided through tap pipes from nearby rivers, ponds, canals, beels or any other reservoir. Farmers are getting success by irrigating the land.

Hafizur Rahman, a farmer of Aringail village in Parshbdanga union of Chatmohar, said that wheat, mustard, black cumin, garlic, onion, maize and other lands are irrigated in this manner during Rabi season. From the end of the month of Falgun this year, in the middle of Chaitra, the farmers of Chatmohar cut the Rabi grains and take them home.

Due to lack of rain for a long time, the farmers of this area cultivated the land and left it for about a month. The crop could not be sown in the land due to lack of rain. Many farmers have sown jute seeds by irrigating the land through ribbon pipes. Their jute is getting bigger. Farmers can cut these in advance. Those who do not have irrigation facilities sow jute seeds after rains. Their jute will become Nabi. This may reduce the yield.

Enamul Haque, a farmer from Ramnagar village in Bilchalan Union, said the use of ribbon pipes in Chatmohar has increased dramatically in the last two decades. In this method many people are seen irrigating up to a distance of about one kilometer. Thousands of farmers in Chatmohar are benefiting from the use of ribbon pipes for irrigation of mango, litchi orchards and other fruits, crops and improved grasses.

Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Al Imran said, "We have been provided 300 feet of ribbon pipe under National Agricultural Technology Program (NATP) Phase-II."

A group of farmers belonging to the Common Interest Group (CI, G) of Chatmohar used ribbon pipes. We provide ribbon pipes to the farmers free of cost or rent if they need to apply. At the end of use they go back. He further said that ribbon pipe method is an advanced water management method in irrigation.

The farmers of Chatmohar are benefiting by providing irrigation in this manner. This method is very effective in areas where crops cannot be produced on time due to lack of water. In this method, the land can be cultivated by supplying water through pipes from a long distance at a comparatively low cost.

As the aisle is high from the ground level, it is difficult to irrigate one land after another. But the farmer does not have to face this problem if he uses ribbon pipe. A lot of water is wasted to irrigate the land through drains. Later, it

costs more.

But if the land is cultivated with irrigation through ribbon pipe, water wastage can be prevented.
