Farmers eye bumper maize production in Chuadanga

Maize is a popular crop among farmers for the highest productivity in Chuadanga district. Maize has become the second biggest cereal crop in the district.  The growers are very interested to cultivate maize for demand of feed industries and making human food in biscuit factories and others industries, said Akbar Ali Malita, a businessman of Dingadah in Chuadanga.      

Maize has tremendous prospects in Chuadanga. About 90 per cent farmers are engaged to cultivate maize here. According to Agriculture Extension Department 13664000 mounds of maize has been produced by cultivating 48800 hectares of land in Chuadanga district.      

Of the total production, 4233600 maund of maize has been produced by cultivating 15120 hectares of land in sadar upazila, 3836000 maunds  by cultivating 13700 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 4132800 maunds by cultivating  14760 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila and 1461600 maunds  by cultivating 5220 hectares of land in Jibannagar  upazila.      

Abdur Razzak, a farmer from Khadimpur in Alamdanga  upazila of Chuadanga district, told the Bangladesh Post he produced 80 maunds of maize by cultivating 2 bighas of land. Jony Mollik of village Monoharpur in Jibannagar upazila said 40-maunds of maize has been produced by cultivating 1 bigha of land.
