Boro paddy harvesting has already started in various parts of the country. Farmers are expecting good profit as Boro cultivation has provided them with bumper yield this year, but their dream may be shuttered in the current situation.

While the farmers of various district in the country, including Gazipur, Satkhira, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Netrakona, are dreaming of a better future free of poverty and debt, coronavirus crisis is threatening to smash their dreams to the ground.

Agro-based workers and day labourers are stuck in their houses due to the ongoing lockdown all over the country for fighting corona virus transmission. The workers are unable to move from one area to another in this current situation.

If this situation continues, the farmers will have to face acute labour crisis. If the farmers are unable to finish harvesting the crops within time the crops might get destroyed in flash floods.

In this current corona situation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given strong direction to the district and upazila administration to ensure Boro paddy harvesting to combat ensuing food crisis in the country.

In order to give hope to the farmers, MP from Satkhira-4 constituency SM Joglul Haider took part in paddy harvesting himself along with the farmers of the district on Friday.

SM Jogalul Haider, MP from Satkhira-4 constituency, said the process of arranging special identity card for the harvesting workers is ongoing to provide them with special transportation at his electoral area in Shyamnagar and Kaliganj upazila.  Besides, arrangements will be made to help the farmers with threshing the crops in these areas.
