At present, Md Abdur Rahim, an agro-entrepreneur, has gained economic success by cultivating ginger. Along with other agricultural products, he has already emerged as one of the most successful farmers in Gazipur district in ginger cultivation.
Abdur Rahim is the son of Md Roman Uddin of Sarashpur village in Targaon union of Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. He is thinking of doing something after returning to the country. In view of this, he received training from the Upazila Agriculture Office, Kapasia for a long period of one year.
With the active cooperation of the Department of Agricultural Extension and the Upazila Agriculture Office, he has cultivated the native variety of ginger in three (3) bighas of land.
Meanwhile, Md. Abdur Rahim, said, "I started ginger farm, fish farms, duck farm and poultry farms with full training."
He further said that he cultivated native variety of ginger in three bighas of land and planted about 10 maunds of ginger here. He spent about 1 lakh tk to plant it. In addition, the cost of cultivation, pesticides and labor has been around 250,000 tk so far.
Meanwhile, farmer Abdur Rahim hopes that if the incidence of the disease is less, he will have a net income of around Tk 6-7 lakh. In 2020, he had an exhibition of indigenous ginger cultivation from the government's revenue sector through the local agriculture office.
And through this ginger farming, fish farming, poultry farming, duck farming, he dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur and self-reliant farmer. He said that if he succeeded in cultivating ginger, he would start cultivating it commercially.
Meanwhile, Upazila Agriculture Officer Sumon Kumar Bashak said, "Under a project (SME) of the government, we will only produce all the farmers as seed producers." We will license them so that they can sell and supply the seeds they produce commercially, so that they become known as traders and seed producers.
"We will provide all kinds of assistance to those who are financially indigent but want to become entrepreneurs in private enterprise," he added. On the other hand, if any of the expatriates wants to become entrepreneurs, they will be given all kinds of benefits except financial assistance. The goal and objective of the government is to commercialize agriculture as part of its goal of motivating all of us.
Asked about this, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Kapasia Upazila Agriculture Office Osman Md. Sohail said, “We give all kinds of technical assistance online and provide advice and seeds, pesticides to the unemployed brothers and sisters who want to become entrepreneurs and self-reliant through agricultural work.”
So that everyone like expatriate Abdur Rahim can make themselves and their family economically self-sufficient by engaging in agriculture.
