A farmer’s cowshed was deliberately set on fire in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur, resulting in the tragic loss of livestock. The incident took place around midnight on 30 September in the Baglergarh area.
The victim, Chatku Mia (60), believes the fire was linked to an ongoing land dispute. He has accused a local resident, Mamrul Mia (35), of being involved in the arson attack, allegedly carried out with the help of a group.
Chatku Mia and his wife, Marjina Begum (40), recounted the horrifying moment: “We were awakened by the sound of people running outside. When we stepped out, we saw the cowshed ablaze. Three cows and a goat were burnt. Another goat and several poultry were completely destroyed in the fire.” Fire service and law enforcement officials arrived promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control.
Neighbours Shah Alam (45) and Anand Mia (18) stated they saw Mamrul (35), Rafiqul Islam (42), and Nahid Islam (19) fleeing the scene.
Accused Rafiqul Islam denied involvement, claiming he was at his in-laws' house during the incident. Mamrul was not found at home.
Madarganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Saifullah Saif, confirmed the fire and stated that police had visited the scene.
