Faridpur District police came forward providing oxygen support to the critical Covid-19 patients feeling suffocation here as the deadly virus is spreading across the country, reports BSS.
Mobile Oxygen Bank, a police pick up and an ambulance carrying oxygen cylinder rush to the patients during 24 hours responding to humanitarian calls by relatives as the city dwellers are facing strict virus restriction from June 21. “If anyone calls us for oxygen support, we go to the respective house immediately to tackle him/her with our Mobile Oxygen Bank,” Anwar Hossain, a Reserve Officer of Police Line told BSS.
“I could not believe my eyes when the sufferer smiles after inhaling oxygen,” he added.
Civil Surgeon Office sources here said the number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 12,343 as 63 more people were detective positive in the Rapid Antigen test of 458 in the district although the result of 285 samples are pending. The infection rate is 36.41 percent in last 24 hours.
The total fatality is 212 with two more death reported today as the death rate is 1.71%. The death rate slightly decreased by 0.01%, sources added.
To abate transmission of the lethal virus, the district administration had imposed strict curb in Faridpur, Bhanga and Boalmari municipalities for a week from June 21.
The police administration, however, had set up numerous check posts to implement the strict ban imposed on all kinds of public transport’s movement and arranged 15 ambulances for carrying patients’.
They also provided a hotline number for the ambulance and oxygen help.
Professor Mohammad Shajahan said, “When I made a call to additional SP Jamal Pasha informing about my relative Sadia Alam Nupur whose oxygen saturation fell down at 80%. After a while, an ambulance with oxygen arrived in front of the house and they handled the deadly situation.”
“I extremely grateful to the unique initiative taken by Superintendent of Police Md. Alimuzzaman for providing such oxygen support along with other efforts,” he admired.
Like Nupur, Rahela Begum, 65, and Atikur Rahman, 56, of Faridpur municipality were in badly need of oxygen support. They got this free of cost calling the hotline number of Faridpur District.
Md. Alimuzzaman said, “Our aim is to stay beside people. As part of humanitarian cause, we have arranged only 15 cylinder of oxygen. So, serious patients feeling suffocation can avail it easily by calling us in this pandemic situation.”
