Incumbent General Secretary Farida Yasmin has been elected the president of the National Press Club for the next two years to become the first woman to lead the journalists’ club.
Farida, who represents the pro-independence panel in the election held on Thursday, bagged 581 votes to defeat her rival Kamal Uddin Sabuj, who secured 395 ballots.
Elias Khan has been elected general secretary while Hassan Hafiz secured the position of senior vice-present, Rejoan Haq Raza vice-president, Mainul Alam and Md Ashraf Ali joint secretary and Shahed Chowdhury treasurer.
The 10 elected members of the executive committee are Ayub Bhuiyan, R ezanur Rahman, Quazi Rownaq Hossain, Zahiduzzaman Faruque, Shahnaz Begum Poly, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Shahnaz Siddiqi Soma, Bhanu Ranjan Chakraborty, Rahman Mustafiz and Bakhtiar Rana.
