Renowned Lalon Geeti singer Farida Parveen has been shifted from the ICU to a cabin at Universal Medical College and Hospital (Ayesha Memorial Hospital) in Mohakhali, after showing signs of improvement.
The 70-year-old singer, who has been undergoing treatment since July 5, was admitted with kidney complications, diabetes, and other age-related health issues. Her son, Imam Zafar Nomani, shared the update on social media, saying, “Amma (Farida Parveen) has just been shifted from the ICU to a cabin, Alhamdulillah.”
He also urged the public to avoid overcrowding the hospital, adding that doctors have warned her condition could worsen again if visitors are not controlled.
News of Farida Parveen’s illness has caused concern across the nation. Widely respected as a living legend of Lalon Geeti, her powerful interpretations of the spiritual songs of Lalon Shah have made her a beloved figure in Bangladeshi music and culture.
Political leaders have also expressed support. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, upon learning of Parveen’s condition, sent party Joint Secretary General Emran Saleh Prince to the hospital. Prince visited the singer’s family on Thursday night, conveying Begum Zia’s prayers and concern.
Earlier, on July 9, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir personally visited the hospital to check on the singer’s condition and offer his best wishes.
