The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Disney's reboot of the Marvel Comics franchise, has continued to dominate the North American box office for the second consecutive weekend. Industry estimates released on Sunday confirmed the film’s strong performance.

The movie stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Emmy-winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. Together, they portray the iconic team of superheroes tasked with saving a retro-futuristic world from the villain Galactus. Over the Friday-through-Sunday period, the film pulled in an estimated $40 million. While this represents a 66 percent drop from its debut weekend, the film’s global earnings have now reached $368 million in just two weeks.

In second place, Universal’s animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 made a solid debut with earnings of $22.2 million. The movie tells the story of a group of quirky animal criminals trying to turn their lives around and do good. “This is a good opening for an animation follow-up sequel,” said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

Paramount’s reboot of the slapstick comedy Naked Gun secured third place with $17 million. The film stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the famously clumsy police lieutenant from the original 1980s movie and television series Police Squad!.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ big-budget superhero film Superman, featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, dropped to fourth place with $13.9 million. Its total global earnings now stand at $551 million.

In fifth place, Jurassic World: Rebirth, the latest installment in the popular dinosaur saga, earned $8.7 million over the weekend. The film has now grossed $765 million worldwide after five weeks in theaters.

The independent horror film Together, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by Neon, debuted in sixth place with $6.8 million. Gross described it as “a very good opening for an indie horror pic.”

The remaining films in the top ten include F1: The Movie, earning $4.1 million in seventh place, followed by I Know What You Did Last Summer with $2.7 million. Smurfs claimed ninth place with $1.8 million, while How to Train Your Dragon rounded out the list at $1.4 million.
