Family members of Freedom Fighter Ansar VDP Commander Abdur Rab Hawlader of Sarankhola Upazila of Bagerhat are deprived of honourary allowance.
His wife Khadija Begum and children are not getting the allowance for the last four years despite having his name in the Government gazette. They had to stop the study of their SSC passed daughter for economic crisis. The treatment of his wife has also been halted. They are passing through life with difficulties. They alleged that they are not getting the allowance due to the negligence of the authority concerned.
Khadiza Begum sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to solve the problem.
Abdur Rab Hawlader, resident of Uttar Kadamtala of the upazila took part in the liberation war with the assistance of Freedom Fighter Shamsul Alam Talukdar. He took training from Tentulbaria Camp of Sundarban Sub-Sector. In 2004, the scrutinizing committee of Bagerhat included his name in the freedom fighters’ list of Sarankhola Upazila where his serial number is 18. In 2005, his name was included in the gazette published by the Liberation War Ministry where his is serial number was 3838. He died nine years ago.
He was buried with full state honour and given Tk 5000 as government donation. After that, the process was completed to provide honourary allowance to his wife Khadiza Begum’s name.
On December 23, 2014, the allowance was passed in the name of Khadiza Begum. She opened a savings account at the Rayenda Bazar Branch of Sonali Bank to withdraw money. But she could not withdraw the money for unknown reason. On August 26, Khadiza informed the matter to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Linkan Biswas. He asked her to give an application and she submitted the application at the same day.
Khadiza Begum said “I did not get the honourary allowance though four years have passed. I went to Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Social Services officer and Muktijuddha Sangsad but no solution came out. I am sick but my treatment is not possible for want of money. My daughter stopped her study for economic crisis. I ssek Prime Minister’s intervention to get the Freedom Fighter’s allowance”.
Sarankhola Muktijoddha Sagsad Deputy Commander Hemayet Uddin Badsha said Abdur Rab was a real Freedom Fighter. The necessary documents of his honourary allowance are now under process.
Sarankhola Upazila Nirbahi Officer Linkan Biswas said “We got an application of Khadiza Begum. The application was sent to the Directorate of Social Services. We will take necessary steps after getting report”.
