We have been noticing since long whenever Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pays a state visit to India, BNP always spreads propaganda and falsehood over the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed between the two countries without seriously going through and understanding all the Clauses. The party (BNP) always mislead people by partially presenting some clauses of the agreement.
Like BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia now convicted in a corruption case, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir echoing the same arguments alleged that the government is deceiving the people of the country by spreading lies about granting India a rail corridor and MoUs signed in New Delhi recently.
But, no country was sold by signing any MoU. Bangladesh, which was achieved through the 1971 Liberation War, would not be sold to India. We believe if Indian trains run through Bangladesh, it will create a security risk here, which is not right at all.

We have to understand that Bangladesh’s recent MoUs with India are not a subservient foreign policy of the government in any way, but it is beneficial for both the friendly countries. In this connection, Clause-3 of the MoU clearly stated that “red traffic” like dangerous and objectionable goods, including arms, ammunition and explosives, cannot be transported in the train.
Besides, Clause-4 of the agreement also stated that the movement of goods and people between Bangladesh and India shall be subjected to the national laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the respective countries.
India is irrefutably linked to Bangladesh’s 1971 birth and the relationship between the two countries is tied with the blood-stained history of the 1971 Liberation War. India had extended its all-out help and support to us in the war of 1971 against Pakistan.
Its soldiers sacrificed their lives for our independence. Therefore, we believe India is our true and tested friend. It is a very simple equation and clear message that the anti-liberation defeated forces, the patrons of the killers of the Bangabandhu, and different extremist groups can never accept or laud India as the country stood beside the Bangalee people during the Liberation War.
