BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday visited Swechchasebak Dal President SM Jilani, who was was injured in an alleged attack by Awami League supporters in Gopalganj, at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The BNP leader went to the hospital around 4:15 pm and talked to physicians about the health
condition of the Swechchasebak Dal leader.
He also visited Jilani’s injured wife, Roshan Ara Ratna, at the same hospital and inquired about her condition from the doctors.
Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal Sports Affairs Secretary Shawkat Ali Didar was killed, and at least 50 others, including Jilani and his wife Ratna, were injured as their motorcade came under attack by unruly Awami League leaders and workers when it left for Tungipara after holding a rally at Bedgram.
Meanwhile, the leaders and activists of Swechchasebak Dal, the volunteers' wing of BNP, led by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, brought out a procession in the city’s Nayapaltan in the afternoon, protesting the killing of Didar and the attack on Jilani’s motorcade.
Speaking at the rally, Rizvi said Awami League cadres attacked the Swechchasebak Dal president, his wife, two children, and the organisation’s leaders and workers like cowards, leading to Didar’s death.
He alleged that the attack was carried out under the directions of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Sheikh Hasina has a perverted mentality and finds satisfaction in the blood of her opponents,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi also claimed the AL cadres dared to kill Didar and attack Swechchasebak Dal leaders and activists because the interim government showed weakness in taking action against the former ruling party's leaders and workers who committed genocide during the student-led mass movement.
He demanded that the government immediately arrest those involved in the Gopalganj attack and mete out exemplary punishment to them.
