In Gurudaspur, Natore, a man impersonating a member of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) was arrested for attempting to extort money from the local food control office. The accused, Md Nazmul Hossain (30), is a resident of Khamar Nachkair in Gurudaspur Municipality and the son of livestock doctor Mokbul Hossain.

For the past week, Nazmul allegedly visited the Upazila Food Controller’s office several times, posing as an NSI officer and demanding Tk 5 lakh in extortion. He reportedly threatened to burn down the warehouse and office, accusing them of supplying poor-quality rice.

District Food Controller Md Rezaul Haque Khandaker said the matter was reported to the Deputy Commissioner on 3 August, who instructed the NSI Natore branch to investigate. That same evening, an NSI team led by Assistant Director Zakir Hossain, with support from DSF police and army personnel, apprehended Nazmul near Gurudaspur Model Mosque.

A case of fraud and extortion has been filed by District Assistant Food Controller Md Julhas Uddin.

Gurudaspur OC Asmaul Haque confirmed that Nazmul remains in custody and is being interrogated. He has been sent to jail via court. Locals suspect a powerful group is backing him and demand further investigation.
