Organised criminal gangs have been making counterfeit certificates of different subjects and degrees like MBBS, BDS, MPhil, PHD, engineering, and advocateship since long. They are selling them to a section of dishonest people in exchange of huge money. This racket is not only active in capital Dhaka, but also active in other metropolitan cities and district towns.

We are gravely concerned over the menace of fake educational certificate business as such serious fraudulent activity poses significant threat to the original certificate holders. Anybody can easily obtain a 'near original' fake certificates of honours, masters, MBBS, BDS, MPhil, and PHD degrees in exchange of money. They produce the certificate in the finest manner so that any difference between the fake and original can not be found.

Using fake educational qualifications certificates like Masters, MBBS, BDS, MPhil, and PHD of different higher educational institutions, the members of organised racket are conducting operations at their clinics and teaching students. They are playing with the lives of general people especially in remote rural areas of the country.

Police and RAB several times launched crackdown on fake doctors practicing without adequate qualifications in different places of the country. A number of fake doctors were arrested during the drive and many of them are languishing in jails.

The government will have to

take stern action against the

 people who obtain fake

certificates

A special squad of plainclothes police on Thursday arrested six members of a fraud gang, including a fake vice-chancellor of a university, who were involved in making fake certificates from their office in Paramount Tower in the city’s Malibagh area.  The gang had been selling fake certificates of Premiere University of Technology for the last two decades. To cheat people the gang was using a fake website, attractive ads in different newspapers, social media platforms and computerised photos of the university campus.

The rural picture is more serious as billboard-based health institutions have been cheating general people in the name of providing treatment. The fake doctors prefer villages where they give allopathy medicines and other treatments to village residents.

Most of them are run by quack technicians and they provide various medical reports at their will. Since long these organised thugs are producing and selling fake education certificates across the capital to a good number of students who buy them at minimal price.

So, a section of dishonest people find the certificates easily to apply for jobs or get visas. We think all educational institutions and government, and private organisations must develop and install reliable app at their respective offices immediately to verify their students or employees’ certificates. The government will have to also take stern action against the people who obtain fake certificates and apply for jobs or visas. People whose certificates or degree are proven to be counterfeit must be dealt with severely.
