‘Fair price of essential commodities before Ramadan’

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today asked the traders to ensure fair price and sufficient supply of essential commodities, including onion, before the holy month of Ramadan, reports BSS.

“Around two lakh metric tons onion will be imported marking the upcoming Ramadan. Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), City Group, Meghna Group and S Alam Group will import the onion,” he said. The minister said this while exchanging views with the traders at the Commerce Ministry conference room in the city, said a release. Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Commerce Tofail Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Tipu Munshi said traders will have to stock other essential commodities, including edible oil, ginger garlic and palm, as per the demand during the Ramadan. He said business community will have to play a responsible role for ensuring fair price and sufficient supply of essential commodities during the month of Ramadan. “The government will provide necessary supports to the businessmen. They have to run their business with the right profit,” he added. Tofail said the government is working to ensure fair price and usual supply of the essential commodities for the welfare of the people of the country. 

“The government is doing everything to prevent any commodity crisis in the country,” he added. Among others, Commerce Secretary Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Competition Commission Md Mofizul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Tariff Commission Tapan Kanti Ghosh and TCB Chairman Brigadier General Md Hasan Jahangir were present on the occasion.
