Fahim praises Shakib’s mental resilience

Shakib Al Hasan has faced significant criticism for his silence during the student movement and subsequent legal troubles. Despite these challenges, his performance on the field has been exemplary, particularly in the recent Test victory against Pakistan. Coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, who has a long-standing relationship with Shakib, who is also one of the directors in the reformed cricket board, shared his insights on the all-rounder's mental strength.

Speaking to the media in Mirpur on Monday, Fahim remarked, "I wouldn't necessarily call it mental strength. Any athlete, regardless of their country, steps onto the field without carrying negative baggage. They focus solely on their game. Shakib is no different; he concentrates entirely on the batter."

Fahim elaborated, "He thinks about where to bowl and how to bowl. Other thoughts might come at different times, but not when he's bowling. This is what sets him apart from others. We've seen that various incidents and criticisms can prevent others from playing their natural game, but that's not the case with Shakib."

Fahim believes Shakib's recent performance will boost his confidence. "We've seen it in his bowling. When he bowls against left-handers, he doesn't always do it comfortably. But yesterday, he bowled like a proper Test bowler, with confidence, whether against right-handers or left-handers."

"Whenever he is given the ball, he bowls to take wickets. He also engages with others, occasionally advising Miraz. He was totally involved. I think he enjoyed it himself. He had some dissatisfaction with his bowling, but that's gone now. Confidence has returned. This will benefit him in the future," Fahim concluded.

These remarks highlight Shakib's ability to compartmentalise his off-field issues and focus on his performance, a trait that has earned him praise from his coach and teammates alike.
