Factors indicate TMC victory in WB polls

Although the media are playing extra and partial roles in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), there are many grounds for the victory of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, in the West Bengal Assembly elections-2021, say political analysts.

Besides, Suvendu Adhikari, who recently joined the BJP leaving the TMC, might also not affect the TMC’s victory as he (Suvendu Adhikari) had won a single seat at Nandigram in the last election.

His own seat is now under threat as Mamata Banerjee herself is contesting the same seat in the current election.

Second phase voting for West Bengal Assembly elections-2021 is going to be held today (Thursday).

According to local analysts, despite various facilities given to Suvendu Adhikari by the TMC, he could not show better performances in the last election. Not only that, Suvendu Adhikari has a habit of changing parties in his own interest. He was a member of the Indian National Congress from 1995 to 1998, and the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) until December 2020. Now he has switched to the BJP from TMC.

In 2014, Adhikari got into a controversy when he was being interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged role in the Saradha Group scandal. He was also accused of supplying arms to the Maoists to overthrow the CPI (M) government during the Nandigram movement.

According to analysts, Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has done many things for the welfare of the mass people during the last several years. It has brought around 10 crore people under Rs5,00,000 insurance, which will play a major role in the victory of the TMC in the election.

The analysts said, there are a large number of votes of the Muslim community and almost all the Muslims are expected to vote for the TMC for its secular attitude toward them.

Accordingly, they said, the people of many other communities like the Dalit, Christian, and Adibasi will also vote for the TMC for the same reason. People like laborers and farmers are also in favour of the TMC.

Not only that, the Bengalis in West Bengal are also angry with the BJP for the National Register of Citizens (NRC). They consider that the NRC has badly affected their future in India.

Finally, the latest visit to Orakandi, the main centre of the Matua Community, in Bangladesh by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi will also not bring anything positive for the BJP as the Indian PM did not say anything about the citizenship for the people, who have gone to India leaving Bangladesh.

It is said that there are around 3.5 crore voters in West Bengal, who are the followers of the Matua Community.
