Mahipur police station members have arrested a fugitive sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in an extortion case in Kalapara of Patuakhali, following three years of his absconding.
The fugitive named Joynal Abedin Khan, 28, was arrested on Sunday morning from his home in Char Najibpur village in Mahipur. Mahipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman said Joynal Abedin, son of Sanu Khan of Najibpur village in Mahipur, was sentenced to seven years in the GR case (No. 195/16), filed with Galachipa police station in 2016. He has been on the run ever since.
On the basis of secret information that Joynal was staying in Najibpur village, police raided the house on Sunday morning and arrested him. Joynal would be sent to court to ascertain whether there were any more cases against him.
