Bangladesh Passengers Welfare Association has demanded that the decision to relax restrictions to reduce human suffering and control the Covid-19 transmission be extended for another four days.
The secretary general of the association, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, made the demand in a statement sent to the media on Wednesday.
His demanded to check toad accidents and harassments of passengers on the way, control excessive fare and reduce crowds on the way back to work after Eid.
Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said members of the National Advisory Committee have suggested imposition of curfew in the country in the wake of the corona transmission. But considering the lives and livelihoods of the people, the government has decided to relax the restrictions of only 7 days from midnight on July 14 to 6 am on July 23 and is launching all types of public transport.
At this, people from all over the country, including the capital, will get the opportunity to go to their village homes to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha for 7 days. However, due to the road and public transport crisis in our country, it is not possible to return to the capital or work from home in just a day after Eid.
Therefore, Mozammel demanded that the decision to relax the restrictions be reconsidered and extended till July 26.
If everyone takes to the streets in one day to return to work on July 22, it will lead to traffic jams, congestion of public transport and ferries and crowds of people at the terminals, as a result the risk of Covid transmission will mount, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said. Therefore, the result of the last 14 days of strict lockdown will end in a fiasco, he concluded.
