Extended KU campus to be named after Bangabandhu

Authorities of Khulna University have proposed to acquire 203 acres of land surrounding the campus in addition to the present campus situated on 106 acres of land for further extension of the campus area.

Sources from KU further informed, the extended portion of the campus will be named as ' Khulna University Bangabandhu Campus' after the title of Father of Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  

Already letters have been sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Khulna to acquire the land. Moreover, letters have been sent to the State Minister and the Secrtary of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and the authorities of KDA have been requested not to issue any approval letter for any building construction in the proposed area, informed SM Atiar Rahman,  Director (Incharge) of Public Relations and Publication Department of KU. 

New subject of studies including Exploration, procurment and preservation of Ocean wealth, exploitation of Blue Economy,  Climatology, Shoreline Environment and Habitation, Preservation of Biodiversity, further research on the Sunderbans and Space Science will be introduced at the proposed new campus. 

According to sources, KU was established on 103 acres of deserted land of Khulna Betar in 1987. Now the campus holds three academic buildings, five residential halls, one library, one laboratory, two mosques, one temple, two administrative buildings, one guest house and  six residential quarters which are not sufficient enough to run a full fledged university. 

As a result, decision has been taken to extend the campus.  Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, Secretary General of Greater Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samonnoy Committee welcomed the initiative of extension of the present campus of KU and said, it is a time befitting step.
