The country's first Dhaka Elevated Expressway is expected to open for vehicular movement next year as the construction work is continuing removing all the barriers.

The project officials are hopeful that the first part of the expressway will be opened at the beginning of next year while the rest two parts will be opened by June same year.

The project has been divided into three segments to facilitate construction. Segment-1 covered Airport-Banani-Railway Station. Trench-2 is Banani Railway Station to Mogbazar. Trench-3 is up to Kutubkhali from Mogbazar via Chittagong Road.

Project stakeholders said that with the launching of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, the connectivity between the north and south of the capital city will be easier, traffic capacity will increase, travel time will be reduced and travel on this route will be comfortable.

Elevated expressway project director AHMM Akter said, "As the land allocation and other obstacles related to project construction has gone; now the work is continuing maintaining health safety rules. It is expected that vehicles would start moving over the expressway from Airport to Tejgaon by April next year."
