Export, import thru’ Benapole port resume

Import-export trade between two countries resumed on Thursday afternoon  through Benapole land port. In order to reduce the congestion of cargo trucks at the port of Petrapole in India, various business associations, customs, police , BSF, BGB  of the two countries have decided to load and unload goods imported from India at No-Man's Land . 

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting at No-Man's Land on Wednesday afternoon. However, import-export activities started after talking to the administration. India will start exporting essential commodities, and perishable goods. Later other products will be imported and exported gradually.

Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of the Petrapol C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association of India, and Paritosh Biswas, president of the Bangaon Import-Export Association, said the Petrapol port authorities started import-export at Benapole-Petrapol port due in coronavirus. Epidamic.

2 thousand 214 Indian trucks carrying goods are stuck waiting to enter Bangladesh from the central parking of Petrapole port to Kalitala parking lot of Bangaon municipality.

Due to contradiction between the Central Government of India and the State Government of West Bengal, trade is not Open soon. As a result, Bangladeshi traders are suffering financially as various types of perishable products including 

jute seeds, onion, fruits, and raw materials used in industrial mills.  At the same time, about 30-40 thousand of Port related employee have become unemployed in the two countries. Once import-export has  introduced, activity will return to Benapole-Petrapole port.

To protect against coronavirus, port users will have access to health awareness hand gloves, masks, hand sanitizers or soapy water at the entry point in No mans land.

Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of the Petrapol C&F Agent Staff Welfare Fair Association of India, said the government of India has been stepping up lockdowns for coronaviruses, making it impossible to resume imports and exports. But we can start trade between two countries .

All imports and exports between India and Bangladesh have been suspended  since March 23 after the announcement of the lockdown. Petrapole police will keep Indian truck drivers in quarantine for 14 days if they go to Bangladesh port.

So Indian trucks will go up to No-Man's Land. Bangladeshi truck drivers and workers will load and unload goods from there. Exports  started with daily necessities, essentials and perishable goods. Other products will be exported later. If the situation is good, work will start as before.

Benapole Port Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said that if India exports goods and Bangladeshi traders accept the product from No-Man's Land, then all kinds of cooperation will be provided by the port authorities.
