Kutubdia- a small Island of 266 square kilometers, located in Cox’s Bazar district. One of the best parts of visiting this ancient island is about enjoying the great solitude this island offers. Surrounded by the Bay of Bengal, the island has the largest wind power plant in Bangladesh. Also one will find a number of historic mosques and tombs, like Yusef Ali Miaji Masjid, Kalarma Masjid, Ek Hatia Fakirer Masjid, Maharaja Kazir Masjid, and Tomb of Qutb Awliya in Kutubdia.

Main attractions for the visitors:

Kutubdia Sea Beach:

This sea beach is not less-attractive than Cox’s Bazar by any means. The beguiling scenery of sun-set and sun-rise from the beach can plunge anyone into the layers of nature. Due to lack of advertisement and media coverage, the island is not widely known among the tourists. By providing adequate logistic facilities along with developing infrastructures we can turn this less-known tourist place into a busy one.

Wind Power Plant: The largest wind power station in Bangladesh is located in Kutubdia Island. About 1,000-kilowatt power plants have been set up at the southern end of the beach, in Ali Akbar’s Dell area.  Lighthouse: The old lighthouse is about to become non-existent due to the cyclones and tidal bores again and again. The tower of the new lighthouse is made of steel but still reminds of the old lighthouse. The Lighthouse has Approximately 35 m (115 ft) square pyramidal skeletal tower with lantern and gallery. The top of the tower carries a red and white horizontally slatted day mark.

Qutb Awali Darbar: Durbar Sharif of Qutub Awali is located in the Dhurang area of the island. Every year thousands of devotees go there. It is said that Kutubdia was named after the ancestors of Kutub Awali. Currently, his son Shahjada Sheikh Farid is in charge of the Qutb Awali Darbar Sharif. Salt Cultivation: During winter, one will find farmers engaged in salt cultivation. However, most salt cultivated fields are found in Tabela Char, Kaiser Bill, Ali Akbar’s Dell. The natural techniques of salt production can be seen here.

How to go:

The easiest way to go to Kutubdia Island is to go by Mognamaghat (Mognama jetty). There is direct bus service from Chittagong to Mognama, also you can go to Mognama by CNG taxi from Chokoria. One can go to Chokoria from Chittagong or cox’sbazar, or from Dhaka by direct bus. It is also possible to go by Dhaka-Coxs Bazar bus and drop at Chokoria Bazar. From Mognama there is boat and speedboat to cross the channel. Speedboat takes only 10/15 minutes and cost 60Taka each pax.
