Experts stress resolving NPL problems in Bangladesh

Speakers at a roundtable discussion on Tuesday laid emphasize on how to resolve problems of non-performing loans in Bangladesh, highlighting the role of asset management company (AMC)  

The roundtable discussion was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) auditorium. 

Ahmed Jamal, Chairman of BIBM Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present in the roundtable discussion as the chief guest. 

Dr. Ashraf Al Mamun, Associate Professor & Director (Research, Development & Consultancy) of BIBM delivered welcome address. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director General of BIBM chaired the program.

A paper “Asset Management Company (AMC): A Way-Out to Solve NPL Problems in Bangladesh” were presented in the program by Dr. Prashanta Kumar Banerjee, Professor (selection grade) of BIBM. 

Other members of the research team are Mohammad Mohiuddin Siddique, Professor (selection grade) of BIBM; Mahmud Salahuddin Naser, Faculty Member (on deputation) of BIBM and Director of Bangladesh Bank; Dr. Md. Shahid Ullah,  Associate Professor of BIBM; Md. Ruhul Amin, Assistant Professor of BIBM and Dr. Nahid Hossain, Joint Secretary of Financial Institutions Division.

Dr. Barkat-e-Khuda, Dr. Muzaffer Ahmad Chair Professor of BIBM & Former  Professor of Dhaka University; Md. Ali Hossain Prodhania, Supernumerary Professor of BIBM; Md. Abdur Rahim, Supernumerary Professor of BIBM; Md. Ismail Hossain, Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank; Tarique Afzal, President & Managing Director of AB Bank Limited and  Dr. Md. Kabir Ahmed, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Training Academy made comments as designated discussants. 

A good number of participants including senior bank executives, academicians, media representatives, faculty members of BIBM took part in the roundtable discussion.
