To strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global market, industry experts have emphasized the urgent need for modernization of production through technological integration in key sectors such as garments, leather, footwear, plastics, and engineering.

Enhancing information resources to improve buyer-seller connectivity and upgrading workers' technical skills were also highlighted as essential for expanding export potential and withstanding competition from global players like Vietnam, India, and China.

These insights were shared by industry leaders and experts at the official launch of the Market Intelligence Platform (MIP) at a hotel in Gulshan in the capital on May 29. Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, inaugurated the platform as the chief guest. Learn more about the new digital platform: https://exportbangladesh.org

Developed under the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project of the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the World Bank, the MIP is designed as a one-stop digital hub for exporters. The platform enables businesses to easily access buyer information, connect with international partners, and explore new export markets.

The event was attended by prominent stakeholders, including Hosna Ferdous Sumi, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank and Task Team Leader of the EC4J Project; Shamim Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA); and Mohammed Mushtaque Ahmed Tanvir, President of the Bangladesh Bicycle and Parts Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BBPMEA).

The event began with a keynote address by Bijon Islam, Chief Consultant for the Market Intelligence Platform (MIP) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LightCastle Partners, who spoke on the platform’s significance and objectives.

Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Project Director of EC4J, also presented an overview of the EC4J initiative and the MIP platform.

He described the platform as a “reliable one-stop service” that will support exporters in making informed and practical decisions.

Mahbubur Rahman said, “With the launch of the Market Intelligence Platform, we are putting actionable data into the hands of our exporters especially SMEs so they can compete with confidence in global markets”.
