There is no such thing as wasteage in Bangladesh, almost all the wasteage in the country has a use and all is being recycled in one way or another. Also, we need to continue research on how to increase the use of bio-fuels in new areas, said Adviser to Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs, Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on Wednesday.
He made the remarks while addressing a webinar styled 'Prospects of Biofuels in Bangladesh' organized by Bangladesh Energy Society (BES) recently.
Md Abul Kalam Azad, Former Principal Secretary and the President of Bangladesh Energy Society (BES) presided over the webinar.
The key note was presented by Dr. Kawnish Kirtania, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Engr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Former Senior Advisor, GIZ; Engr. Jorifa Khatun, Director, System Planning, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB); Shahed Israil Khan, Researcher/ Advisor, CKN FEEDS Ltd and Executive Member, Biogas Association; and Professor Ijaz Hossain, Council Member BES and Former Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET attended as negotiators.
Chief Guest Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury further said, “I always support research, because it can really move a nation towards a better future. Through our research, biofuels are already being widely used in various industries and factories. And we can already see the benefits of this. ”
During the presentation of the main article, Dr. Kawnish Kirtania said, "Bio-fuels play an important role in decarbonizing vehicles by providing low-carbon solutions for hard-to-abate sectors such as trucking, shipping and aviation. Currently, most bio-fuels are produced using common feedstocks such as sugarcane, corn and soybeans".
He said this process needs to be improved and awareness should be created about the rules, importance and benefits of using biofuels. It is also possible to solve the problem by regularly monitoring relevant authorities and strengthening the laws for the proper management of waste management and drainage systems.”
Commenting on the president’s speech, Md. Abul Kalam Azad said, “We are happy to organize this webinar on bio-fuel for the ninth time. Through this, we have received various opinions and suggestions from scientists about the potential and effectiveness of bio-fuel, which I hope will bring the country's energy crisis under control."
