Agriculture experts at a function here have suggested the farmers to cultivate BINA Dhan-25 at larger scale to get desired production against the variety.

“It is called high yielding variety (HYV) and it can be farmed during the Boro season like other HYVs. It takes 160-165 days for its maturity but the production is higher than other HYVs. The power of preventing diseases of this paddy is comparatively higher than the other varieties.”

The experts made these observations while addressing a function for cutting the BINA Dhan-25 in the land of a farmer-Sohag Mondal at Boshnab Dash village under Rasulpur Union of Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district.

They also said that the plants of this paddy used to grow within 115 to 120 cm tall. So it grows more straw which is also profitable for the farmers. The rice of this variety is very nice and tasty to eat.

Sadullapur Upazila Agriculture Office arranged the function to inspire the local farmers to farm the variety on their lands in the coming seasons.

Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Khorshed Alam attended the function and addressed it as chief guest where Senior Scientific Officer of BINA Rangpur Regional Office, Dr. Mohammad Ali spoke at the event as special guest. Upazila Agriculture Officer of Sadullapur Matiul Alam presided over the ceremony.

The Agri-experts also advised the farmers to cultivate the HYVs in synchronized method during the Boro season in larger scale to cut the varieties of more land with combined harvesters or other machinery tools at a time. After harvesting, the farmers at present are very happy and satisfied and expressed their gratefulness to the Agri officials for producing desired output against the variety as over 22 maunds of paddy were produced from one bigha land this season. Earlier, the experts also briefed the farmers whether any additional crops can be cultivated from the same land in the gap of Boro and Aman seasons. A large number of farmers, field level agriculture officers, sub assistant plant protection officer Abdur Rab, Union Parishad Chairman Robiul Islam, local elite and journalists attended the function.
