Expats’ role important for country’s development: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, world leaders today are busy praising the wonderful progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Expatriate Bangladeshis continue to play an outstanding role in this progress by sending their hard-earned foreign currency back home. They also contribute to keep the image of the country bright.

The leaders of Abu Dhabi Bangabandhu Parishad and Dubai Expatriate Rangunia Samiti greeted the Minister when he arrived at Dubai International Airport on Thursday from Dhaka to participate in the 'EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum' to be held in Stockholm, Sweden. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting said all this while meeting the leaders at a local hotel during the layover. Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai BM Jamal Hossain was present at this time.

Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "A group wants to create obstacles in the way of this country's development and progress." To counter their anti-national conspiracy, the hand of leader Sheikh Hasina, the favored daughter of the father of the nation, should be strengthened and the Awami League should be voted in the next election to maintain the course of development and progress of the country.

Abu Dhabi Bangabandhu Parishad President Alhaj Iftekhar Hossain Babul, General Secretary Nashir Uddin Talukder and Dubai and North Emirates Expatriate Rangunia Samiti Central Committee President Maulana Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury, General Secretary Journalist Saiful Islam Talukder among the local leaders led by Moin Uddin, Abu Taher, Sajjadur Islam Rubel, Mozammel Hossain Chowdhury, Riyad bin Raju, Saiful Islam Haroon, founder and former president of Emirates Jubo League Shamsul Haque Mizan, prominent businessman Abdul Quddus, Saiful Alam and others attended the meeting.

Dr Hasan Mahmud today also expressed sorrow at the death of legendary film actor, member of parliament (MP) from Dhaka-17 and valiant Freedom Fighter Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque, popularly known as 'Miah Bhai' in Bangla film. 

In a condolence message, the minister said, "Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooq is one of those in whose hands film industry in Bangladesh had turned around after the independence".

He earned praises by acting in numerous films like 'Jalchhabi', 'Abar Tora Manush Ha', 'Sujan Sakhi', 'Lathiyal', 'Surya Grahan', 'Matir Maya', 'Nayan Moni', 'Sareng Bou' and 'Golapi Ekhan Train-e', said Dr Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Farooque was conferred with the National Film Award in 2016, he added.  The minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
