Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said fugitive former Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain would be arrested anytime. “There is no negligence of police as he (Ex-OC Moazzem) is hiding in the country,” he told the journalists after joining an art function “Tarunno Kotha” at the National Museum in the capital.

Replying to a query about delay for arresting of Moazzem, the minister said there is no negligence of police for detaining Moazzem, adding, Police is trying to arrest fugitive Moazzem but he is now in hideout.” Earlier, the minister said Moazzem can’t escape anywhere and he will be arrested soon, Moazzem will face trial in the murder case of Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

According to case details, Nusrat went to Sonagazi model police station to file a case against Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal Sirajuddaula, on March 27, for sexually assaulting her the day before. But the ex-OC Moazzem recorded a video of her statement-without her consent-asking her offensive and insulting questions. The video then surfaced on various social media platforms. It was alleged that Moazzem had uploaded the video.

Nusrat, 18, an Alim examinee-was set on fire by Sirajuddaula’s followers on April 6 for refusing to withdraw the rape attempt case her family had filed against him. She died from her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit.
