Family members of the former Awami League MP Sudipta Dewan and her husband first mayor of Rangamati municipality doctor AK Dewan brought different allegations against advocate Dipen Dewan, a so-called leader of BNP and his cohorts, a resident of Montripara, College Gate in Rangamati town.

The allegation including trying to grab their 0.58 acres of ancestral land forcefully and through forgery, threatening for life, attack and vandalised shops, demanding of extortion and obstruction in their construction works many times.

Family members of AK Dewan and Sudipta on Monday brought the allegation at a press conference at Hotel Motel Gorge at College Gate in the town.

They claimed that their father possessed 0.58 acres of land (Holding No-12/171) in 102 no Rangapani Mouza at College Gate area. The then deputy commissioner of Rangamati issued a settlement order of that land to their father AK Dewan in 1969/70 which mutation case no 57 (D). From the very beginning, they have been possessing the land and it is still under their ownership. They constructed few houses and shops on the land.

AK Dewan’s family members informed that Dipen’s father Subimol Dewan took the ownership of that land through fake documents in connivance with the then AC land officials in 1978. Later, AK Dewan filed a complaint to the then deputy commissioner for justification of legality and ownership. After hearing the case the deputy commissioner gave the verdict in favoured of AK Dewan in that year.   Failing to get the verdict in favour of him, Dipen’s father Subimol Dewan subsequently filed a writ petition in the additional divisional commissioner’s court in Chattogram. Here he had also lost to this case. Further, Subimol submitted a writ petition in the Higher Court. But he could not win in that legal fight as well, as the Higher Court disposed of his petition after hearing, AK Dewan’s son, daughters and in-laws claimed showing legal documents. Later, Subimol did not proceed with the case.

Defeating in all legal fights, Dipen and his cadres attacked on their tenants living in their houses and shops and vandalised those last year. After the attack, family members of AK Dewan filed a case (Case no-02, date 04/05/2018) against Dipen with Kotwali police station.
