Ex-Feni Zila Parishad chairman arrested in Dhaka

Detectives in a drive arrested former Feni Zila Parishad Chairman Khairul Bashar Majumdar Tapan from his residence at Shantinagar in the capital on Friday night in a case over killing protesters near Mohipal flyover during the July movement.

Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in Shantinagar area and arrested Tapan around 10 pm, said Mohamamd Shamsuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station.

Tapan, also vice-president of Feni district unit Awami League and son of Abul Bashar of Dhanikunda village in Parshuram upazila of Feni district, went into hiding after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 2024.

Seven people including Srabon, Sihab and Shahi were killed and 400 people were injured in a clash during the anti-discrimination student movement near Mohipal Flyover on August 4.
