Police on Monday arrested former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur in a rape case filed with the capital’s Lalbagh police Station.
Nur along with several others were arrested near the capital’s Matsya Bhaban area under Shahbag Police Station on Monday night, a police official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told Bangladesh Post.
The former DUSCU VP and his cohorts also assaulted police during the arrest, said the official wishing anonymity.
Earlier, a female student of DU lodged a lawsuit against six people including Nur on Sunday night, Officer-in-Charge Inspector KM Ashraf Uddin told Bangladesh Post on Monday.
Those five who were named in case are Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, Nazmul Hassan, Md Saiful Islam, Nazmul Huda, and Baki Billah.
According to the case statement, Hasan was named as the prime suspect while Nur and others abated him.
Police opened investigation into the case, OC Ashraf said.
