Ex-Chhatra Maitri president Bappaditya Basu arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Bappaditya Basu, former president of Biplobi Chhatra Maitri, the student-wing of Workers Party of Bangladesh in connection with three cases related to embezzlement of money and fraudulent practices.

A team of RAB-10 arrested 40-year-old Bappaditya Basu from New Market area in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

After arrest, he was handed over to Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station and was sent to jail on Wednesday following a court order in the district.

RAB-10 said Bappaditya Basu is a convicted fugitive in three cases filed in Noakhali, Cumilla and Barishal for money swindling and forgery. Officer in-Charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station Abdur Razzaque confirmed the matter. 

During the primary questioning, Bappaditya admitted to remain fugitive in a number of cases related to embezzlement of money.
