A Dhaka court on Friday granted a four-day remand for former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in connection with a sedition case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid issued the order after police requested a 10-day remand. Sub-Inspector Shamsuzzoha Sarkar, the investigating officer, presented the remand plea to the court. Defense lawyers opposed the request and asked for bail for the accused.
After a hearing, the court approved a four-day remand for further questioning. Nurul Huda was initially detained by locals at his residence in Uttara Sector-5 on the evening of June 22 and handed over to police. He was presented before the court the next day, which granted an earlier four-day remand.
Appointed as the 12th CEC in February 2017, Nurul Huda oversaw the 11th national parliamentary
elections in 2018, along with all local government elections during his term.
