Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam on Thursday said the corporation will start eviction drives on September 20 in its jurisdiction areas aiming to recover the city’s footpaths from illegal occupants, reports BSS. “Recovering footpaths from illegal occupants will be a challenging task for us,” he told a function, arranged by DNCC, at Gabtoli Kitchen Market in the capital.
The DNCC mayor said the local government and the city corporations are constructing footpaths in the capital, but most of those are being occupied, which is a matter of regret. “I’ve already talked to Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam in this regard. We want that people will walk through footpaths and vehicles will move on roads,” Atiq said, seeking cooperation of all in conducting eviction drives to recover footpaths.
