An eviction drive has started to remove the illegal structures on both sides of the road in Satkhira on Monday.

Executive Engineer of Khulna Roads and Highways Department Anwar Parvez and members of law enforcement agencies participated in the eviction drive as well.

Executive Engineer Anwar Parvez said the eviction drive has started to evacuate the illegal structures on both sides of a 62-km road, stretching from Satkhira city to Bhetkhali. Earlier, they gave notice to the people concerned and announced through microphone to remove the illegal structures. As the encroachers didn’t comply with their notice, they started the evacuation drive. He also said that tender process for the four-lane road from Satkhira city to Bhetkhali has already completed. The rest of the activities will be started after the occupied road space is recovered.

Meanwhile, many people from Itagacha area claimed that they were not given any prior notice. The authorities also broke an excavator machine that was kept on the side of the road. Khokon Bishwash, one of them, said the machine was transferable but it was broken without giving any chance to move it.

He demanded compensation for it. Besides, the people living on the sides of the road are also facing sufferings.
