‘Everyone should be vigilant against yellow journalism’

Justice Mohammad Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council, has said that the journalists now a days enjoy more freedom and benefits. 

He made this remark as the chief guest at an exchange of views and book distribution programme organised by Bangladesh Press Council with the participation of local journalists in Lakshmipur marking the Mujib Barsho. He also said, “There are 40 private televisions in the country. The government is working for the development of journalists. He said that during the tenure of the present government, journalists are getting the opportunity to cover objective news.”

He added that, "Everyone should be vigilant so that no one is able to do yellow journalism behind this objective journalism. Databases of journalists across the country are being created in this regard. This will increase the dignity of actual journalists.”

DC of Lakshmipur Anjan Chandra Pal presided over the programme held at the open stage in front of the District Collectorate building. Press Council Secretary Md Shah Alam, ADC Safiuzzaman Bhuiyan, Acting Superintendent of Police Reazul Kabir and Press Club President Hossain Ahmed Helal spoke on the occasion.

Later, a biography of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was handed over to the Press Club President by Press Council Chairman Justice Mohammad Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed. Earlier, the chief guest was welcomed with flowers.
