MP Azad tells meeting in Jamalpur

Jamalpur Sadar constituency lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad on Sunday said everyone has to work for their own development.

“No one else can do it for you. Organisations like the government, World Vision and Unnayan Sangha will only help to speed up your work,” he told an awareness meeting organised by Jamalpur Area Programme on Lakhirchar Union Parishad premises in Sadar Upazila of Jamalpur.

He said the prime minister declared 'My house, my farm’ should be built. The lawmaker asked people to increase their income by rearing chickens, quail birds and rabbits, and growing mushrooms and vegetables in the backyard.

“You can generate electricity yourself through solar at a low cost. The generated electricity can be sold to the government at an appropriate price after own consumption,” the lawmaker said. Abul Kalam Azad said the government and private organisations can create opportunities for skill development training and employment creation through coordinated initiative and proper planning.

He urged the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to organise a meeting soon with the top-level NGOs working in Sadar upazila.

The lawmaker also appreciated the work of World Vision and Unnayan Sangha.

Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jinnat Shaheed Pinki presided over the awareness meeting on the declaration of upazila free from child marriage and 100% registered births, distribution of awards for long-term education based on women and men equality and distribution of preventive health materials to reduce the risk of possible floods. The meeting was organised by Unnayan Sangha with the technical and financial support of World Vision. Jahangir Salim, Human Resource Development Director of Unyanan Sangha, conducted the event.

Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Shahadat Hossain, District Awami League Joint General Secretary Jafar Iqbal Jafu, Unnayan Sangha Executive Director Md Rafiqul Alam Mollah, World Vision Cluster Senior Manager Sebastian Purification, Jamalpur AP Area Manager Sagar De Costa and Unnayan Sangha AP Manager Minara Parveen, among others, spoke at the meeting. More than three hundred people participated in the event.

At the end of the discussion meeting, 360 high-quality dishes were distributed among 30 Mancare families while health materials, including buckets, were distributed among 103 women.

Later, lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the tree plantation programme of Jamalpur Area Programme (AP) by planting a nut tree sapling on the school ground. It is known that in the current season, Unnayan Sangha and World Vision will jointly plant 30,000 medicinal and fruit tree saplings under AP in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila and it will be associated with the programme of planting 10 lakh saplings by lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad.

Earlier, the lawmaker visited stalls of Nutrition, Health, WASH, Livelihood, Sponsorship, Village Development Committee and District Child Forum set up at the venue and expressed satisfaction.
