Even the old did not miss voting

Ninety-year--old Kamrunnesa cast her vote on Sunday morning at a polling centre in the capital’s Korail area. 

She went to the T and T Adarsha Girls School polling centre with her son. 

After casting her vote, she said that even a single vote is important for the country. “So, no matter how difficult it is, I always cast my vote. I feel good.”

Kamrunnesa is one of 119.6 million voters in Bangladesh eligible for voting for the parliamentary election.

Voting began at 8am on Sunday at 261,912 polling booths in 42,024 voting centre and continued till 4pm with 299 parliamentary seats up for election. Polls were deferred in one seat at the death of a candidate. With the ruling Awami League and its alliance looking confident to 

 win the election for a fourth straight term, its arch-rival BNP and like-minded parties called for a hartal on the day.

Septuagenarian brave ill health to cast vote at Dhaka’s Uttara

Md Shamsul Huda, a 76-year old man, was cheerful to cast his vote in the 12th Parliamentary election despite his poor health condition.

Shamsul, a businessman by profession, went to Uttara High School and Collage Centre in a wheelchair with the help of his two sons around 11:30 am.

Talking to UNB, he said, “I did not cast my vote in 2018 due to the absence of a peaceful election environment but this year the election environment is so good that’s why I came to cast my vote.”

Like Shamsul, an elderly woman, Sharifa Khatun,  also went to polling station to cast her vote. 

Tofazzal Hossain, presiding officer of the polling centre, said under booth-3 which is designated for male voters, the number of total voters is 2158 but only 120 votes were cast till the filling of this report around 12 pm.

In the first two hours only 24 votes were cast, he said.

“The situation at booth-6 which is designated for female voters is also the same. The number of female voters is 273. But only 39 votes were cast,” he said.

However, there is no queues of voters at the polling station but the voters are trickling in.

105-year-old man cast vote in Cumilla

In Cumilla, a centenarian man aged 105-year-old cast his vote in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla Dakhin district.

He went to the voting center of Sreepur Govt Primary School with his grandson and cast his vote this morning. 

Amir Hossain expressed his happiness while casting his vote. He said, “I have cast my vote many times in my life. I am happy today to cast my vote for my desired candidate," he added.  

The Sreepur govt primary school polling station in Chauddagram upazila saw the presence of a large number of female voters in the national election held on Sunday.
