Erosion-hit people get relief in Gopalganj

Financial aid has been provided by the district administration to the distressed families affected by the Madhumati river erosion in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila.

A cheque of Tk 5,000 and 20 kg of rice were distributed among 22 families out of 57 affected by the Madhumati river erosion. In addition, 35 kg of rice was distributed to 35 partially affected families on Thursday afternoon.

Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Rashedur Rahman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdur Rahman, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Women Vice Chairman Nirunnahar Begum, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Alauddin, Jalalabad Union Awami League President and UP Chairman Suprul Alam, other members of the Union Parishad and other dignitaries of the area were present.

It may be mentioned that many crop and settlement lands of Ichakhali, Char Barfa and Dhalaitala villages of Jalalabad Union have already been submerged in the river due to severe erosion of Madhumati River. Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (RevenueUsman Gani, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Rashedur Rahman and other officials visited the river erosion area on September 18 and talked to the officials of the District Water Development Board and the victims of the river erosion and instructed them to take immediate action to prevent the erosion.
