A Dhaka court on Sunday again placed Erfan Selim, son of Awami League MP Haji Md Selim, and his bodyguard Md Zahid on a total of five-day remand in two separate cases.
Earlier on October 28 the cases were filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.
Two separate magistrates passed the order on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chawkbazar police station Md Delowar Hossain, who is also the investigation officer of the cases, produced them before the court. He sought a 14-day remand for grilling them in police custody.
According to the court sources, Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Kaisarul Islam granted a three-day remand in the arms case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder granted a two-day remand in the narcotics case.
However, lawyers of the accused filed a new petition against the remand, seeking bail for them.
Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy filed the case with Dhanmondi police station against four named accused, including Erfan, and several unnamed others. The three other accused are -- AB Siddique Dipu, 45, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30. All four are now behind bars.
According to the case statement, on October 26, a private car hit Lt Wasif's motorbike near Labaid Hospital at Dhanmondi around 7:45pm while he and his wife were returning to their Mohammadpur residence from Nilkhet.
After the accident, some people came out of the car and physically assaulted the navy officer and verbally abused his wife.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Erfan from his father’s residence at Devdas Lane in Swarighat in Old Dhaka on October 27.
On the same day, a RAB mobile court sentenced Erfan and Zahid a year in jail for possession of illegal walkie-talkies and liquor.
