A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to suspended Dhaka South City Corporation councilor Erfan Selim , son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker and Awami League leader Haji Md Salim.

Earlier on Monday, police submitted final reports in the two cases against Erfan.

He was arrested in two cases filed under the narcotics control and arms acts.

Dhaka’s Additional District Magistrate Bhaskar Debnath Bappi passed the order.

Defence lawyer Pran Nath confirmed it.

Erfan was jailed for a year after illegal guns, ammunition, liquor, walkie-talkies, and handcuffs were seized from him by a RAB led mobile court.

On October 28, RAB raided Haji Selim’s Old Dhaka residence.

Meanwhile, credible sources said RAB will proceed further after receiving the final report.

Mentioning that the case against Erfan Salim is under trial in court, RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun refused to make any comment.

"As Irfan Selim's case is currently pending in the court, the court will decide further," the RAB DG said while responding to reporters at a programme held at its headquarters.

According to RAB, the agency had filed the case according to the findings followed by a nine-hour-long raid at Irfan Selim's house.

On October 26, Navy Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed a case against Erfan and his associates for assaulting him at the Kalabagan crossing the night after Salim's vehicle hit his motorbike.

After the assault, RAB carried out a nine-hour-long raid and recovered firearms and drugs, eventually filing two cases against Erfan and Zahidul.

During the raid, RAB seized at least 38 walkie-talkie sets, three very high frequency sets, two pistols, two handcuffs, a router, six bottles of alcohol, a shooter gun, and 400 yaba pills, RAB claimed.
