Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized the importance of ensuring health coverage (UHC). She said that ensuring healthcare is fundamental to development.
The PM has said that health is an integral part of the development journey; she said it is essential for continued socioeconomic progress therefore access to quality health services must be ensured for people of all socio-economic backgrounds.
Despite budget limitations the government has given priority to improvement of medical services in the country. The government has also funded programmes to provide affordable and quality essential medicines and vaccines for all.
The government of Bangladesh has been allocating more and more budget to the healthcare sector and the situation in our country in slowly improving. The appalling state of our healthcare sector is apparent from the thousands of preventable deaths due to lack of proper facilities and equipment. The upper class can afford to travel abroad to seek treatment but for the common people it has led to endless suffering.
We hope that through the
collaboration of all nations and health-related
organizations, healthcare would become
accessible to each and every person
The government’s dedication in improving the quality of healthcare is commendable and we can see the effects in many of the indicators such as reduced maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate, child (under-5 years) mortality rate, malnutrition, stunting rate and low- birth weight rate. The average life expectancy has increased in our country and we have achieved significant success in ensuring health and wellbeing of infants and children.
However, there is still scope for improvement of the medical services available in our country. The government must ensure greater emphasis on research and development in the sector.
Healthcare is one of the basic rights of each and every citizen. A nation can never move ahead unless affordable healthcare is accessible to one and all. We hope that through the collaboration of all nations and health-related organizations, healthcare becomes accessible to each and every person.
