Everyone thought that the annual development programme (ADP) for the next financial year would be made with the utmost importance on tackling the effects of coronavirus.
According to media reports, the highest allocation has been made in the next financial year in the transport and physical infrastructure construction sector. No doubt, many big projects are underway and they need to be completed quickly.
Due to the coronavirus situation, all the countries of the world are putting utmost importance in their budget plans on health infrastructure. Bangladesh should not be an exception.
In the current situation, experts think that four sectors -- health, social security, food and agriculture, and industry and trade -- need to be given immediate importance in the implementation of ADP.

The four sectors are. To address the coronavirus, investment in the health sector need to be increased. After this, importance should be given to the social security sector.
Unemployed and marginalised people have to be given money and food aid for a certain period of time. Besides, there is a danger of food crisis all over the world. Therefore, projects should be implemented with priority in agriculture and food sector.
Failure to build capacity in these two areas could lead to greater danger in the ongoing coronavirus situation. After this, the industrial and commercial sectors will have to be prioritised.
It is time to overhaul the healthcare sector. At the same time, we have to think about the education and training sector. Initiatives to increase the quality of government spending are urgent.
There are many projects in the ADP that are completely unnecessary. These must be omitted and optimised. We have to rationalise the use of cars and travel expenses abroad and ensure transparent use of money. Each ministry should attain efficiency in resource utilisation.
